A Lesson in Optimism

In this life, there is a time and a place for everything, especially when it comes to one of the most intense human emotions – worry. I am officially here to say that now is not the time to be worried. The Reds are a great team and it is only April. Baseball is a game of ups and downs – someone has to win and someone has to lose. Many, many fans will take this series loss as a sign of things to come, but the only thing it is a sign of is that a negative attitude will get you nowhere. While we weren’t able to catch the Cardinals in this series finale, I think we’ll be fine. In fact, we’ll be better than fine. We will face the Cardinals twelve more times this season and the best way to show everyone that we are a great team that is going to make it all the way is to work harder, demonstrate a positive attitude, and be graceful and classy. Our pitching was great tonight, and while our offense was not quite where it should be, we’ll get there soon enough. So, we lost to the Cardinals – so what?

Now it’s time to go to Milwaukee. Remember them? If not, this should jog your memory:

We swept them in the season opener by doing what we do best – coming from behind. The Reds are one game out of first place and a half game behind Milwaukee. With just a little bit more hustle, we should be back on top in no time. They don’t call the Reds “The Comeback Kids” for nothing!

Susan J. Bissonette said, “An optimist is the human personification of spring.” So relax, it’s still only spring.
