2013 Season Ticket Guide

Guys, there is quite a lot to talk about in the Reds world this week. I’ve been working on this post for a week, though, and it’s kind of time sensitive. I’ll come back to our regularly scheduled programming in a few hours.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is that time of year again. Time to start thinking about what season ticket package you’re going to buy! If you’re like me, you haven’t even started to think about it, much less made an actual decision. If you’re not like me and have already decided on and purchased your season tickets, I’m jealous, I hate you, this post is not for you, and will you please teach me your ways?

If you’re a procrastinator, preoccupied, or just too busy, you’re my target audience today. Last year, I wrote a season ticket guide that compared each season ticket package with regard to opponents and the promotional schedule. (You can check them out here and here.) I’m going to do the same thing for y’all this year, but instead of separating the opponents and giveaways into separate posts, I’m just going to make ONE BIG GIANT MONSTER SASQUATCH of a post. That way, all your information will be in one place to make the season ticket package decision just a little bit easier. Feel free to retweet, Facebook share, email, text, Tumblr, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. this post. (Snapchat, that’s what all the kids are doing these days, right?)

I obviously did not research the Full Season or Half-Season packages because I think those are fairly self-explanatory.

The 20-game mix package is what the Rockin’ Redlegs crew purchases each year. It is affordable and provides excellent opportunities for various games. Since most season ticket holders have either this plan or the 13 game plan, those are the ones on which I will exclusively focus. Here are your opponents and promotions/giveaways for the 20-Game Plans

Promotions and Giveaways: This package will forevermore be referred to as, THE BALD EAGLE PACKAGE. While this package has tickets to the Team Calendar night, the Brandon Phillips Bobblehead game, Mother’s Day, and the Todd Frazier Bobblehead game, the only other special promotions you can expect in this season ticket package are flights by Sam the Bald Eagle and Fireworks Friday. In total, there are five bald eagle flights included in this package. There are four Friday games, all of which include Fireworks Friday. While there’s not an excessive amount of giveaways, this is a respectable package. If you love bald eagles, sign up as soon as you can.

bald eagleIf you hate bald eagles, get outta here.

Opponents: No matter which season ticket package you choose, you will have some great games and opponents in store. This mix of 20 games is comprised of two interleague games and 11 games against NL Central opponents. In my personal opinion, if you are interested in seeing some NL Central matchups, there are plenty to choose from in this package. There are three games each against the Cubs, Brewers, and Pirates and two games against the Cardinals. Other opponents include the Angels, Phillies, Marlins, Braves, Indians, Giants, Padres, D-Backs, and Mets.

Promotions and Giveaways: In this package, you’ll have access to a few Fireworks Friday games. There are also a few Sunday games which means (since Sundays are family days at the ballpark) a few different kids giveaways, including the Kids Baseball Card Set, the Kids Sweatshirt Drawstring Bag, and the Kids Jersey Pillow. The big ticket giveaway item in this package is the Aroldis Chapman Bobblehead on May 11. Fans who select this package also get to experience some of the more exciting events, such as Girls Night Out on July 20 and Fan Appreciation Night on September 29 (Sidenote: I love Fan Appreciation Night).

Opponents: In my opinion, this package has a better selection of opponents than Mix A. I love to see the Reds play against teams they don’t play against too often. In this package, we’ll see the Reds face the Nationals, Phillies, Rockies, Mariners, and Athletics. I like to see the Reds face West Coast teams, so in addition to the Mariners and the A’s, we also get to see our guys face the Giants and the Dodgers in this package. There are three games each against the Cubs, Cardinals, and the Pirates and two games against the Milwaukee Brewers. Other opponents include the Rockies and the D-Backs.

I’ve never really given much thought to the 20-Game Weeknight package, but I actually really enjoy the look of it. The only thing I would like to clarify about this package is that the name is misleading. Although it is called the “Weeknight” package, there are 9 games that have a daytime start. If you’re thinking that you can buy this package and make it to all the games after work, you might need to rethink that decision.

Promotions and Giveaways: The Dog Lover’s Package has been revived! This season ticket package has tickets to BOTH Bark in the Park nights, which OMG HOW FUN AND CUTE. Every time I think about Bark in the Park, a little part of me squeals and then dies. The other notable giveaways for this package include the Mat Latos Bobblehead, the Joey Votto Bobblehead, and the Reds Stein (which I really would love to get my hands on). The downside is that since these are all games that take place during the week, you miss out on Fireworks nights, Family Sundays, or any other kind of special event.

Opponents: I really like this package because, a lot of times, you get to see two games out of the same series. Those could make for some very exciting games, especially late in the season when you’re watching the rubber match to claim the division. You get two games in the same series for each of the following: Rockies, Pirates, Giants, D-Backs, Cardinals, and Mets. Other opponents include the Angels, Phillies, Marlins, Cubs, Braves, Indians, and Athletics.

Promotions and Giveaways: You want promotions and giveaways? THIS IS THE PACKAGE FOR YOU! Just five of the 20 games are devoid of any special event or giveaway. YOU GET:
- Reds Fleece Blanket
- 2013 Magnetic Schedule
- Brandon Phillips Bobblehead
- Kids Jay Bruce Bat
- Fathers Day Giveaway
- Kids Reds Hat
- Kids Mr. Red Bobblehead Frame
- Reds Cap
- Joe Morgan Night
- FIVE (5) Fireworks Fridays games

I need to sit down.

Opponents: My same interest in the Weeknight package holds true for this one as well. You get two games from the same series seven times as the Reds host the Nationals, Marlins, Brewers, Mariners, Cardinals, Padres, and Dodgers. Just the poor little Cubs only face the Reds once in this package. There are 10 games against our fellow NL Central teams.

Promotions and Giveaways: This is not the package for promotions and giveaways. If you would like to see all the Fireworks Friday games, this is for you. I don’t know about you, but while fireworks are awesome and fun, I don’t need to see thirteen fireworks shows in a summer. That’s just me though. LUCKILY, included in three of these games are some more BALD EAGLE FLYING ACTION! LOOK AT THAT BALD EAGLE FLYING THROUGH THE AIR REPRESENTING AMERICA AND FREEDOM TO ALL THE REDS FANS!!! (That was a song I wrote and I dedicate it to all of you.) I think I’m losing it. I’m going to take a small break and come back in a few minutes.

Opponents:  I’m back. The opponents for this package are as follows: Nationals, Marlins, Brewers, Cubs, Cardinals, Mariners, Padres, Dodgers, and Pirates. Out of the 13 games, eight of them are played against NL Central opponents.

Promotions and Giveaways: This package has far less promotions and giveaways than I was expecting, but there are still plenty of great stuff. The Reds Fleece Blanket, Brandon Phillips Bobblehead, Aroldis Chapman Bobblehead, and the Reds cap will make themselves at home in your collection, should you choose this package. You also have the opportunity to attend Girls Night Out and Joe  Morgan Night. There is something for everyone in this package!

Opponents: Guess what? The opponents in this package are the exact same as the ones in the Friday package: Nationals, Marlins, Brewers, Cubs, Cardinals, Mariners, Padres, Dodgers, and Pirates.

We are almost done here. I’ve been working on this for a week, and I’m so glad it’s almost over. It’s kind of a lot of work and at this point, I don’t even want to think about a season ticket package.

Promotions and Giveaways: Sundays are family days at the ballpark, and that is no joke. Not only does this package make you privy to EIGHT different Kids’ Giveaways that include a Kids Wristband, Kids Baseball Card set, Kids Jay Bruce Bad, Kids Reds Cap, Kids Mr. Red Bobblehead Frame, Kids Sweatshirt Drawstring Bag, a Gapper Book, and a Kids Jersey Pillow, but you also get to go the ballpark on Mothers Day and Fathers Day. Also included are Magnetic Schedule day on April 7 and Fan Appreciation Day on September 29.

Opponents: Guys, you’ll never guess what! The opponents for this package are the same as the ones for the other two 13-game packages! Please see above.

Guys, this was quite an undertaking to do all in one blog post, but I’m hoping you appreciate it! GO REDS!
